Synopsis:
Being on the run in the desert means food and sanctuary are hard to come by, but Amber Tate and her crew are not about to give up. Not after having so many of the things they love brutally ripped from them by an unknown enemy who sent their world into the apocalypse.

Survival takes precedence, but once safe shelter is found, their guards fall and the emotions they’ve been holding in are finally released. Anger, insecurities...lust. In their tight quarters, Amber, Rylen, Tater, and Remy can't escape it. The past must be faced, and passions run even stronger in the darkest of times.

In the midst of unrest, their worlds are rocked again when they discover the truth about the war that’s ruined their lives. They thought finding out the enemy's identity would give them the edge; instead it’s revealed terrifying dangers they never thought possible.

*Inspirationsy for the Unknown Trilogy*
by Wendy Higgins
When I was in high school, I began having end-of-the-world dreams—freaky, realistic things—floodings, earthquakes, takeovers. It was like that movie Red Dawn where the U.S. was invaded. I would wake up terrified, wondering what the hell was wrong with me. Years later, I was still having the dreams, and I hated them. I told my husband about them, and he was fascinated, being a war and history guy. For years he said, “I think you should write a war book,” and I was like, “No way! I hate that crap! It’s too scary!” I didn’t want to have those dreams, much less submerse myself in a story about that sort of destruction.

And then the dystopian, post-apocalyptic book rage began. I read many. One thing I noticed was nearly all of them began after the dystopian society was in place. And I always wondered how it got to be that way. How the people allowed it. See, when I was a high school teacher I taught George Orwell’s 1984 to my seniors. One of the things that drove them absolutely crazy was that they thought the people were weak and stupid. They claimed that what happened in 1984 could never happen to them. People would never allow a government to take over in such a way as to oppress the entire society. I named countless times in the past, and even the present, where such atrocities happened, but still…they didn’t believe.
It was those dreams, the challenge from my students, and my fascination with extraterrestrial life forms that led to the idea for the Unknown trilogy. I wanted to show the normal life of my modern characters, and the gradual breakdown of the United States into a post-apocalyptic society. I’m also a romance chick, but the love story part of this book turned out to have just as many complications as the rest of the plot. It’s ultimately a romance series, but book one…whew. It’s a rough road to get there, one that I hope is as worth the journey for you as it was for me. Brace yourselves, and happy reading!
